...since I posted.

I've had some stuff going on. The biggest of which is that we bought a house! We moved in a month ago and love it! :) We still have a half a garage to unpack, although to be fair, most of the stuff is from our (= my) storage unit. I am in the process of going through stuff that I packed over 5 years ago. Needless to say, most of it will be donated but I still have to go through all the boxes first. The plus is that I am discovering some stuff that I forgot I had and can't understand why I packed it away in storage since I could have been using them all this time.

Blackjack
We took Blackjack in for his re-check/followup appointment today. The good news is that the doctor was VERY happy with how he has responded to the radiation treatments. The not as good news is that he will start chemo the week after next.

Although we could wait to see if the tumor starts growing again, the doctor recommended that we do chemo to try to put it into remission. He will have 3 months of once a week treatments, then 3 more months of every other week treatments.

All in all, I'm feeling good about the appointment since it could have been way worse.
17th-Mar-2011 06:11 pm - Wiped Out
White Tiger
I wiped out at bootcamp this morning.

During the warm-up lap around the park, about 3/4 of the way around, I stepped on something. I felt it roll, felt my ankle twist and went down in slow motion. I got up quickly - fast enough for my coach, who didn't see me actually fall, to think that I was doing a pushup for some reason. Only about 1/3 of the class saw my wipeout although once I realized I was fine, I joked about it. I was able to do the workout although I took out all the jumping.

I've been icing it all day and trying to elevate it. It is still tender and I'm walking with a bit of a limp, but I think I'll be fine. Not sure if I'll be up for bootcamp tomorrow morning - I'll decide later on tonight.
11th-Mar-2011 06:16 pm - Guess I'm the bad guy
Blackjack2
Blackjack had his last radiation treatment today. He has developed the blisters on the roof of his mouth and his throat which is a very common side effect. Unfortunately they are expected to worsen this week before getting better. In addition, he has to take 2 different pills a total of 5 times a day as well as a mouthwash that he gets 3 times a day.

Even though Michael takes him to the vet, and I bring him home, Blackjack sees me as the bad guy. He won't let me near him but as soon as Michael comes home... it is not fair I tell you!

We have a recheck appointment next Friday which is when we will find out if Blackjack will have to have chemo as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't...
2nd-Mar-2011 07:19 pm - Blackjack Update and Fit Test #3
Blackjack
Blackjack had his CT Scan today. When I picked him up, he was quite vocal about unhappy he was... although he did quiet down for some of the ride home. The first thing he did was eat - he was hungry since he last ate last night. The second thing was managing to remove the bandage from his leg where the catheter was put in - about 20 minutes before I was supposed to. His other front leg is bruised because when they originally put the catheter in, his skin was too moist, the tape came up and the catheter came out. Ouch! He has a rectangle of shaved skin on his back (with markings for the treatments) and both front legs as well as his tummy (from the ultrasound) is shaved now too. Let's hope tomorrow goes well.

He is snoozing next to me at the moment.

On a completely different note, I did another fit test this morning - well part of one. We only did the timed mile due to the fact that there was only one coach and a number of others not taking the test. I ran 5 seconds faster than last time, which was 2 or 3 seconds slower than the time before that - still an improvement, so I'm happy about it.

We went to the oncologist today.

First they had to do an ultrasound, which means that his belly is now shaved - on the coldest day so far. Poor guy! Anyway, the ultrasound results were good, the cancer hasn't spread anywhere else. We have a CT scan scheduled for Wednesday and radiation treatments start on Thursday. 3 times a week for at least 2 weeks. After that, the doctor will review and see if any additional treatment (aka surgery and/or chemo) is needed. Let's hope that's not the case.

Although I'm not happy this is happening, I feel a little better that the doctors are optimistic and we now have a treatment plan.

Let's keep thinking positive!
17th-Feb-2011 09:20 pm - Today Sucked!
Blackjack2
On top of leaving my umbrella in the car and having to go out in a downpour, disappointing news about the house we were interested in, we found out that Blackjack has a tumor. We took him to the vet today because we thought he was having issues bringing up a hairball as that was he seemed to be trying to do unsuccessfully. Turns out that there is a tumor growing under his soft palette. Blackjack is the type of cat that doesn't show any signs of anything being wrong until it is really wrong but still... I feel like a horrible mom! He's home now and we'll just have to wait a couple of days for the biopsy results to come back before figuring out what the next step it.

Wow, today sucked!

I did another fit test this week. I ran 2 seconds slower than last time. The disappointing part is that when I finished I thought I had finished a couple of seconds faster. Oh no, I had remembered the wrong time from last time. Oh well...

I did better on with my push ups and crunches but the big improvement was in my wall sit. I maxed it out at 5 minutes! During the last fit test, I was only able to hold it for 2 minutes. We'll see if it was just a fluke next month.

All in all I'm happy with the results.
29th-Jan-2011 09:11 pm - Day Off
Roulette2
Today was the first day that I didn't exercise in over 2 weeks. I decided I really needed to sleep this morning, so I didn't have time for a run before my pedicure appointment at 10a. We got together with some friends and their kids for lunch and had fun.

I could have gone for one when we got back - I actually thought about it - but instead started some laundry and read for bit before taking an unplanned hour-long nap. Guess my body needed more rest.

I actually missed not exercising today but don't feel guilty about not doing it, so I think that's a good thing. I will go for a run tomorrow and everything will be back to "normal". :)
19th-Jan-2011 06:24 pm - Not Advanced on Wednesdays
Being A Cat Rocks
Since I've been doing boot camp for a year, I've decided to up my participation level this year by putting myself in the Advanced group. We get to put ourselves into either Beginner/Intermediate or Advanced groups. Advanced usually does a bit more – air jacks instead of regular jumping jacks, adding a pushup instead of just holding a plank, etc.

Wednesdays are cardio days at the track. After today's workout, I've decided that I am not advanced when it comes to cardio days. I am not as fast a runner as the rest of the advanced group and ended up pushing myself too hard trying to keep up. This was all my doing. So for now, I'll be putting myself in the other group when at the track.
